FREMONT, Ohio (May 11, 2026) - "I can't wait to come back and race here." Those were Kalib Henry's words, not this weekend, not last month, but last year when the Sacramento, California native took in Indiana Sprint Week at "Indiana's Baddest Bullring," Kokomo Speedway, as a spectator. At the time, the 26-year-old driver of the Racers for Life No. 101 machine was on the sidelines. This past weekend, Henry was behind the wheel.
With rain claiming the victory over Friday night's portion of the two-day event, the skies were clear 24 hours later, allowing Henry to pilot his Valvoline, Bulterbuilt Seats, Birchard Financial, West River Trailer Sales & Services, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Triple J Towing, Pub 400 410 for just the fourth time this year. "We've had 11 or 12 rain outs," Henry mentioned while doing an interview with High Limit's Tony LaPorta. "All these guys have run 20 plus races, and I think this is race number four for me." That disparity seemed to be of no issue when the night's program kicked off.
Henry was the first group to hit the track for qualifying alongside the 19JR of Joel Myers Jr. Following a first lap time of 11.453, Henry would go faster on lap two and would set the bar with a time of 11.394. Henry's reign at the top of the chart was eventually ended when Brent Marks would set a time of 11.329. When qualifying for Flight A came to an end, Henry found himself sixth quick behind Aaron Reutzel, Gio Scelzi, Justin Peck, Logan Seavey, and Marks. Unofficially, across both flights of qualifying, Henry was the tenth fastest time.
Lining up on the outside of the front row for heat race two, Henry got the jump on pole sitter Seavey and beat the multi-time USAC and Chili Bowl champion to turn one. It was smooth sailing from there as Henry would go on to claim his third career heat race victory with High Limit Racing.
During the dash draw, Henry was paired with a special wheel-spinner, Cheryl from Driven2SaveLives. Cheryl is an ambassador for D2SL and organ donation recipient when she received a life-saving liver transplant. On a night where the wheel could not help but find the high numbers, Henry was unable to break the status quo and would roll off sixth in the dash. At the conclusion of the eight-lap affair, Henry was seventh and would roll off in the A-Main from the inside of the fourth row.
Six All Stars [Henry, Cale Thomas, Bryce Lucius, Zane DeVault, Tim Shaffer, & Zach Hampton] would take the green flag for the A-Main with Henry leading the charge. Working the bottom side of the speedway, Henry maintained seventh until lap ten when Myers Jr. was able to get by on the top side of the track. It remained unchanged until lap 17 when Henry was able to get around Parker Price-Miller briefly before Price-Miller got back around one lap later. The duo battled for several laps until Henry was able to add distance between the two. A restart with 14 laps to go allowed Henry to get by Scelzi for sixth before fellow All Star, Thomas, was able to sneak by both. Things started to fade for Henry in the final ten laps and the defending All Star champion would come home after 40 laps in 11th place. With Thomas finishing seventh, Henry was the second highest placing All Star ahead of Lucius [15th], Shaffer [19th], Hampton [24th], and DeVault [27th].
"It feels odd saying this, but this was a much-needed rebound." Henry eluding to the 11th place finish against High Limit & All Star competition. "The start of the year hasn't really been fun to say the least. Today was fun."
The Racers for Life No. 101 and Henry will make appearances at both Fremont and Attica this week with both events offering a $20,000 winner's purse. If a driver can win both races, they'll receive a $10,000 bonus, raising the total winner's prize to a potential $50,000.
